État de siège Cantate by Garrett List on a poem by Mahmoud Darwich
© D.R. State of Siege. On discovering this magnificent poem by Mahmoud Darwich, Garrett List knew he had found the words to tell the sufferings of the Palestinian people. This cantate, in List’s own subtle manner, mixes jazz, popular music, song and improvisation to provide an emotive setting for this text that Mahmoud Darwich wrote during his reclusion at Ramallah in January 2002 to mark his reaction to the Israeli army offensive in the autonomous Palestinian Territories.
